C-section Release and Rehabilitation
This treatment aims to restore function, reduce pain and restriction, and improve the appearance of your scar.
The C-section Release and Rehabilitation consultation is specifically designed to help women who have birthed via c-section, experienced a hysterectomy or other female surgeries (organ removals, keyhole surgery, cancers) that leaves abdominal scarring.
As most surgeries affect multiple layers including skin, fascia and muscles, there are benefits to treating scars deeper than the superficial (visible) layers. Most scars could use some extra attention and treatment - scars that do or do not cause pain/restriction, or new or old scars will all benefit from this treatment. Many women feel disconnected from their core - if this is you, book online for an appointment.

As your body heals, scar tissue is laid down at each of these layers. Internal and external scarring can interrupt the ability for the body’s tissues to move freely with and around each other. Adhesions, or ‘sticky bits’ can form between these layers, causing them to become a little stuck together. This ‘stickiness’ can lead to painful movement, poor bladder and pelvic health, digestive issues, reduced sensation, and, it can also negatively impact the physical appearance of your abdominal area.
This treatment is for you if you experience any of the following:
Achiness, pain, numbness, tingling or sensitivity at or around the scar
A scar that feels stuck, lumpy, thick, indented or bumpy to the touch
Discomfort or pain when clothes rub against the scar
Pain/discomfort at the scar during certain times of your cycle or during intercourse, or pelvic floor issues
An overhang that just won’t seem to go away
Stretching pain or pulling around the scar with movement
If you have trouble recruiting abdominal muscles in exercise/lack core connection, no matter how much core work you do
Persistent lower back, hip pelvic or sacral pain
Limited range of motion or stiffness in the lower abdomen or pelvis

Yes absolutely! All scars cause scar tissue to be laid down within the body. This is a completely normal part of the healing process. However, internal and external scarring can interrupt the ability for the body’s tissues to move freely with and around each other.
So regardless of the type of surgery, scar release can help with any scar.

C-section release and rehabilitation can be performed once your scar is fully healed on the skin. This can vary between people, but is typically after 8 weeks.
This treatment can be effective whether you are recently post-partum or many years post-partum.

Yes, absolutely! Most scars could use some extra care and attention, even those that are many years old. There is also many more benefits to be gained from working on the surrounding tissues, improving breathing, reducing adhesion around the scar, and relaxing and mobilising the abdominal wall, diaphragm and ribs. All of this will help you feel more connected to your core, and your body.
-
Whilst this consultation is tailored to you and your body, it will typically involve looking at your scar and breath, then applying hands-on treatment, including a blend of manual therapy, breathwork, and gentle movement.
In an abdominal scar release session, we assess and treat adhesion around the scar, the abdominal wall, the diaphragm, and the ribs. We also assess and treat any associated areas, such as back, hips and neck. We understand the abdominal area can be sensitive, so we will work with you to ensure you are comfortable throughout the session.
Our aim is to improve your body’s function and we will send you away with some simple strategies to continue caring for your scar at home,
